 Lycéen de 15 ans, Ichigo Kurosaki possède un don très spécial: il peut voir les esprits. Un jour, attaqué par un monstre appelé Hollow, il rencontre Rukia Kuchiki, une Shinigami ou <<dieu de la mort>>, qui lui confie accidentellement la totalité de ses pouvoirs. Ichigo doit alors apprendre à gerer sa vie de lycéen tout en assumant ses nouveaux devoirs de chasseur de démons.
