Tenma Tsukamoto est une jeune élève japonaise vivant dans la ville de Yagami. Amoureuse d'un camarade de classe assez atypique, Ōji Karasuma, et qui semble ignorer tout le monde, elle ne se rend elle-même pas compte de l'intérêt que lui porte Kenji Harima, le caïd de l'école. Tous deux, bien peu accoutumés à ces démarches amoureuses, vont tout faire pour se faire remarquer par leurs cibles respectives par des moyens souvent peu conventionnels mais toujours divertissants.
